Make their habit my hobby

Hello Stranger

I know, yall don't have to tell me. It has been a long time. Well, im back with a mini series. One that I promised a long time ago.

I just want yall to know, several things happened over the last week or so to bring this blog to fruition. This particular blog was one that I wrote before the launch of SimpleFAKs. I remember Friendsmas 2019 telling my besties about this blog. Why have I been holding on to it?!? I have no clue….but before I release the updated and edited version, let me tell you how we got here.

Serendipity!!

It’s August…I work in higher education…at a large community college, so its peak season.

I love the idea of what I do. I love learning and helping others learn and reach goals. A new advisor came into my office today and asked what motivates me…He said “you seem genuinely passionate about what you are doing.” I truly am…or was! I don’t want to do this forever. This week at work started out with a random, unnecessary task…sheesh!

Which leads to the next thing that happened this week. I was texting my LS the other day and I put in writing “Im trying to figure out how to make candles and journals fulltime!!! It’s coming!”

Eeeeekkkkkk who said that “Porsha voice” Well, when I put something in writing and I put it in the universe, it happens!

Finally, I went to college in Georgia. August, GA. Paine College…guess who else went to Paine College.. PASTOR TROY! And Pastor Troy announced his last album and his retirement from rap. I know yall are like….what does this have to do with anything!

Well, this mini series is about motivation! There are several things that I do, listen to, or watch when I am getting ready for something or motivating myself.

With that said, the song that motivates me the most and turns me TF up is No Mo Play in GA, specifically, the 3rd verse! So i'm going to break it down and explain what it means to ME.

He starts the 3rd verse with “I make the ghetto my lobby, make their habit my hobby.”

You have to go to where they are…you have to give the people what they want! When I started making candles, one of the reasons was ‘Candle Day’...IYKYK. My friends and I would buy dozens, yes dozens of candles every year. It was a legit habit, guess what…I made that my hobby (and future income).

A few sentences later he said “Got me watching for coppers, all I want is to prosper.”

You have to be on point, watch your back to make sure you succeed. I also take it out of its initial context and to me it means, make sure you are doing everything to not get caught up in something thats going to knock you off your game.

My favorite part is “Im taking risks to get it, but now im sick of this sh** so with these last couple of dollars, we gon flip it legit.”

When I was starting out, I was trying different waxes, and oils. But I wanted my candles to be natural and healthier and not release parabens. So i had to invest more money into the business. Yall remember that stimmy…yep!!! Invested that into myself and my future.

Which leads to the next line

“I bought this beat machine, bout big as a calculator, who would have ever dreamed, we hit the studio later. Its like I owe them basers for making me take this serious, wasnt for the struggle cuz, you would not be hearing this.”

Covid, the stimmy, my desire for natural candles, my passion for helping people, my desire to live a more peaceful life all led to the start of SimpleFAKs, the release of the candles, the design of the journal, Felicia being an entrepreneur!!

While I know this song is a diss track and about something that is frowned upon and may not be a song that everyone can listen to… Since 1999 it has been an anthem in the south. I will always blast it. It will always be a staple on several different playlists. And it will always motivate me!!

I know this blog was long, thank you for reading it. Stay tuned for an updated website, 2 new journals, 2 new candles, life coach services and many more things!!!!

Peace and Simplicity
